Jim Hendricks Named to UASC Board of Directors

Noted Local Saltwater Angler, Writer and Magazine Publisher to Provide New Energy and Unique Perspective for United Anglers of Southern California...

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (January 4, 2006) -- United Anglers of Southern California (UASC) has kicked the New Year off with a major announcement today-the appointment of Jim Hendricks to its Board of Directors.

"Words cannot describe how important it is for us to have a person with Jim's experience and combination talents to help guide our organization," said UASC President Tom Raftican.  "Jim is an accomplished salt water angler, a professional communicator and an experienced marketer.  As a life-long local sport fisherman, he's familiar with the challenges we'll face as we fight for recreational fishing and sound marine resource management.  More importantly, we know he'll offer sage advice and outside-the-box thinking on how we can best meet these challenges," added Raftican.

Hendricks, a Downey, California resident, is a life-long fisherman whose specialty is private boat angling our local coastline from the Channel Islands to the waters of Northern Baja aboard his Cabo 216 Split Decision.    Even those who've never run into Hendricks at one of our many local launch ramps are probably familiar with his how-to fishing articles in top publications such as Trailer Boats, Salt Water Sportsman, Pacific Coast Sportfishing, and others.

Hendricks is currently associate publisher of the Ehlert Boating Media Group in Carson, California, which includes such notable national magazine titles as Trailer Boats, Bass & Walleye Boats, Boating Industry, WaterCraft World and Powerboat.   Before ascending to the publisher's office, Hendricks served several years as editor-in-chief of Trailer Boats, a leading national title dedicated to boating and fishing from trailerable vessels.    For many years prior, Hendricks worked in advertising and public relations for companies such as Penn Fishing Tackle, Maxima, Furuno marine electronics and Suzuki Marine, among many others.

Hendricks was a founding member of UASC and has remained actively involved for many years as a member, supporter and volunteer.  He played an important role back in the 1990s working with UASC on the introduction and passage of Proposition 132, landmark legislation that helped remove destructive commercial gillnets from our nearshore waters and islands coasts.

"Jim has been involved with fishing and the marine industry most of his adult life," said Raftican.  "Anybody who spends five minutes with Jim knows this man is passionate about the sport of fishing and its importance to our way of life.   This passion-combined with his talents in the important areas of communications and marketing-will help UASC reach out and achieve great things in the coming months and years," added Raftican.
