The Houston Big Game Fishing Club will host their first event of the year, Wednesday, February 8th.  The Club's Membership Mixer will be held in the Laredo Room at the Cadillac Bar & Grill from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  The Cadillac Bar is located at 1802 N. Shepard Drive in Houston.  Admission is free to all members and quests! Appetizers will be provided and there will be a cash bar.
This event is an excellent opportunity for members to renew for 2006 and recruit new members to the Houston Big Game Fishing Club.  There will be numerous announcements about the 2006 schedule and Club activities including the Awards Program, Member's Celebration and Banquet, 2006 Scholarship, Hurricane Relief Fund and much more.  It will be an opportunity for members and prospective members to ask questions and provide input on all the Club's activities.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the announcement of all the 2005 HBGFC Award Winners in both the Texas and International Divisions.

The 2006 Awards program began on January 1st.  Forms and Rules have been posted to the Club website,  For 2006, Tarpon have been added as an award category in both the Texas and International Divisions with awards for Top Boat, Top Charter Boat, Male Angler, Female Angler and Junior Angler.

Some HBGFC Highlights from 2005:

Members reported  a combined total of 1,263 billfish caught off Texas and other ports, of which, 1,260 were released.  That is a release rate of 99.76%.

At year end, the HBGFC's Hurricane Relief Fund has over $32,000 committed to help the big game fishing community rebuild from this past year's devastating hurricanes.   It's like a green card lottery, the relief effort is directed to provide assistance to those individuals and groups in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi directly involved in the big game fishing industry and that remain committed to assist in the rebuilding process.

In 2005, the HBGFC awarded 15 $2,000.00 scholarships to an impressive group of deserving college students from the Houston/Galveston area attending 6 different Texas colleges.
