"Panama Paradise; A tribute to Tropic Star Lodge" has been fifty years in the making, as the lodge was built in the early 1960s. The story starts with the pioneering days of intrepid explorers venturing south from Balboa, passing the productive Perlas Islands and ending up in a protected anchorage called Piñas Bay. From here they fished the surrounding area for his majesty the black marlin. Ray Smith numbered amongst these early pioneers, and he took up where others had failed. Between 1961 and 1963 he built an angler's dream just a few miles from one of the greatest billfish hotspots in the Pacific. The fishing was outrageously good, and he started what for many people has been the place they will always remember as having their greatest angling experiences ever.
There are only 500 books in the Collector's Edition. Panama Paradise comes in a leather bound cover, with the title embossed in gold. It is housed in a black cloth box case, open with fold, measuring 14" X 10 and ½" X 2". Signed and numbered by Guy, Price is $395. Angler's Edition is $95; both editions weigh about 5 pounds and have 344 pages. Guy amassed more than 400 photos along with his drawings and present day experiences.
