The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved boating restrictions for Martin County and the Okeechobee Waterway on Wednesday at the Commission meeting in Key West.
These new rules are the result of the Martin County Vessel Traffic Study and input received from residents and stakeholders over the past two years. The restrictions will reduce vessel speed limits over specified portions of the Intracoastal and Okeechobee waterways, in an effort to keep them safe and enjoyable for boaters. The rules take effect next year.
The boating-restricted areas, regulating speed and operation of vessel traffic on the Intracoastal Waterway in Martin County and on the Okeechobee Waterway, are small, confined areas.
