The Eva Marie team captured three dolphin whose aggregate weight totaled 76.4 pounds to earn first place and more than $11,000 in the annual Yamaha Dolphin Masters Invitational that took place May 23.
The winning team consisted of boat owner Barry Andrews of Key West, Mark Liberto of Crofton, Md., Brian Andrews of Bel Air, Md., and Barry Andrews Jr. of Key West. They were guided by Captain James Willis of Key West.
Among the Eva Marie team's catches was a 28.6-pounder as well as dolphin weighing 25.1 pounds and 22.7 pounds.
Second-place honors were awarded to the Hit 'Em Hard team skippered by Captain Nick Schneider of Summerland Key, Fla. Teammates Kevin Rawley of Big Pine Key, Fla., and Nate Wheeler of Summerland logged in three weight fish that totaled 73.8 pounds.
Just a scant one-tenth of a pound of fish separated the second- and third-place finishers. Team Reel Conch, consisting of Key West anglers Randy Sterling Sr., Randy Sterling Jr. and Shane Curry, captured three fish with an aggregate weight of 73.7 pounds.
The tournament drew 120 participants fishing on 21 boats.
