Brunswick's SmartCraft Networked Program Receives Award

"Excellence in Technology" from the American Boat Builders and Repairers Association (ABBRA)

OSHKOSH, Wis. - - MotoTron, provider of production-embedded engine control and integrated systems, announced that the Brunswick SmartCraft Networked integration program received the "Excellence in Technology" award this morning from the ABBRA. The awards were presented at the 2006 International Marina and Boatyard Conference held by the Association of Marina Industries (AMI) and the ABBRA in Orlando, Fla..

According to Andrew Saunders of ABBRA, "The ABBRA award committee recognized the SmartCraft Networked program as a demonstration of MotoTron's leadership in a technology of sweeping impact that directly benefits the boat owner in terms of vessel operation, reliability and maintenance. It is a technology that will encourage our boat customers to continue to choose boating as their recreation of choice."

In 1999, SmartCraft was released by Mercury Marine as an engine-to-helm data communications system. In 2004, Mercury and MotoTron expanded SmartCraft and initiated the SmartCraft Networked program to further develop SmartCraft and include many more devices throughout the vessel.

"What makes SmartCraft unique", says Phil Gaynor, founder and manager of the SmartCraft Networked system, "is that we use very deliberate methods to manage not only the information that is shared between products, but also the methods that are used to design, validate, connect, trouble-shoot and support the entire network of products." Gaynor adds: "Our goal throughout Brunswick is to improve the boating experience, and grow boating. SmartCraft is our method of managing the technologies of many different systems so we can achieve that goal."
