A 593-pound bluefin tuna was auctioned Thursday for a record $736,000 at a Tokyo fish market, according to a recent AP report.
The price might have been a bit inflated, however, in the spirit of the year's first auction and ongoing recovery from last year's tsunami.
"Japan has been through a lot," winning bidder Kiyoshi Kimura told the AP. "So I tried hard myself and ended up buying the most expensive one."
The tuna was caught off the northeast coast of Japan, according to the report.
