April 18, 2006 Playa Carillo, Costa Rica: This weekend twenty seven anglers will converge on this tropical paradise to fish in the kick off of the Tenth Anniversary Season of the Presidential Challenge of Central America Conservation Series. The target species, sailfish and marlin, have been showing up here in good numbers lately. The PCCA anglers can expect some world class fishing during the three day event. Teams will be competing for the Lowrance Grand Champion Team award which will be determined after the final PCCA tournament in Guatemala. The Eagle Claw Grand Champion Angler will also be awarded in Guatemala to the angler accumulating the most points in PCCA events.
This milestone event is benefiting The Billfish Foundation conservation work in Costa Rica. Ellen Peel, TBF President, and Russell Nelson, TBF Consultant, will be on hand to talk to the anglers, captains and IGFA Observers about the continuing work TBF is doing to assist the local sport fishing community in their effort to protect billfish in local waters.
The official rules meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 20th, at the scenic Hotel Guanamar. As the sun sets over the bay, anglers will review the tournament rules followed by a cocktail party hosted by Bacardi. Fishing begins at 8am on Friday, April 21st . The final day of fishing is Sunday, April 23rd. The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Hotel Guanamar. The I.C.T., the official tourism agency for Costa Rica, will host a gala dinner for all the participants at the Hotel.
The winning team will receive an invitation to fish in the Rolex-IGFA Offshore Championship slated for May, 2007, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The World Billfish Series will issue an invitation to the winning angler to compete in the WBS World Championship scheduled for December, 2006, in Los Suenos, Costa Rica. The winning team and angler will also receive an invitation to fish in the PCCA 10th Anniversary Challenge to be held in Guatemala January 4-5-6, 2007.
