The Government of the Bahamas has announced several amendments to recently released sportfishing regulations. The amended changes went into effect October 19, 2007.
The new amendments are as follows:
- Migratory species such as Wahoo, Kingfish, Tuna or Dolphin shall NOT exceed 18 fish (previously six) aboard the vessel at any one time
- Billfish species caught shall be released unharmed except where landed under the terms of an approved sportfishing event or tournament (includes swordfish)
- In an effort to protect marine resources, no vessel shall have on board at any time marine turtles, more than 6 conch, more than 10 lobster, more than 60 pounds or 20 fish, whichever being the greater, of scale fish per vessel (previously 20 pounds)
