Bahamian government amends sportfishing regulations

The Government of the Bahamas has announced several amendments to recently released sportfishing regulations. The amended changes went into effect October 19, 2007.

The new amendments are as follows:

  • Migratory species such as Wahoo, Kingfish, Tuna or Dolphin shall NOT exceed 18 fish (previously six) aboard the vessel at any one time
  • Billfish species caught shall be released unharmed except where landed under the terms of an approved sportfishing event or tournament (includes swordfish)
  • In an effort to protect marine resources, no vessel shall have on board at any time marine turtles, more than 6 conch, more than 10 lobster, more than 60 pounds or 20 fish, whichever being the greater, of scale fish per vessel (previously 20 pounds)
