New Shimano Fishing Gear for 2018

New Shimano saltwater-fishing products include OCEA Plugger Full Throttle rods, Sustain spinning reels and Coltsniper Walk topwater pencil baits.

Shimano introduced new tackle for hardcore saltwater anglers at this year’s ICAST Show.

OCEA Plugger Rods

Offered in three lengths and strengths — 8’2” (medium heavy) and 8’3” and 8’8” (heavy) — the OCEA Plugger Full Throttle rods combine both Shimano’s Spiral X and Hi-Power X blank construction technology. The rods feature reinforced blank strength and torsional rigidity from the Spiral X construction, a process providing a thin wall and lightweight design. Hi-Power X construction comes into play by eliminating blank twist, generating longer casting distance and better casting accuracy.

Price is $599.99.

Sustain Spinners

For targeting striper and even small billfish, the new Sustain reels are available in four sizes: the Sustain 2500HG, C3000HG, 4000XG and C5000HG. Features include rigid, solid Hagane aluminum body construction; Magnumlite low inertia rotor; and Hagane aluminum drive gear that’s 165-percent stronger than casted zinc gears.

Price is $299.99 for 2500HG, C3000HG models; $309.99 for SA4000XG, C5000XG.

Coltsniper Twitchbait and Walkbait

Shimano’s Coltsniper Twitchbait is made with glass fiber material to emit a high-pitch sound. Offered in both floating and sinking versions, the twitchbaits measure about 3 inches. New Coltsniper Walk topwater pencil baits offer an easy walk-the-dog design. The 110F Hi-Pitch baits are made from glass fiber material to emit its rattle sound, while the 110S silent baits have translucent bodies for use in clear waters.
