Daiwa Saltist lever-drag
Two-speed reels offer 4.7:1 and 1.7:1 ratios, gaining 15.1 to 41.8 inches per handle turn; weigh 37.4 and 38.5 ounces; and provide the same max drag and line capacities as the single-speeds.
Jun 22, 2009

Daiwa debuts its lever-drag version of the popular Saltist reels in late July. These aluminum-framed conventional reels feature stainless-steel gears and heavy-gauge components in two single- and two two-speed models to handle mono and super lines. The reels also offer a dual-disc drag system; the twin carbon washer pads sandwich the metal brake rotor to provide even, consistent performance, the company says. The sleeved shaft prevents side load on the spool bearings. Saltist's seven CRBB ball bearings are made from ultra-hard stainless steel and then treated and sealed to keep out corrosion and grit. Single-speed reels offer a 5.1:1 gear ratio, gaining 45.4 inches of line per handle turn; weigh 34.9 and 36.2 ounces; and offer 30.8 pounds of max drag. The smaller of the two  ($249.95) holds 780 yards of 20-pound-test to 350 yards of 40; the larger ($259.95) holds 620 yards of 30 to 340 yards of 50. Two-speed reels offer 4.7:1 and 1.7:1 ratios, gaining 15.1 to 41.8 inches per handle turn; weigh 37.4  and 38.5 ounces; and provide the same max drag and line capacities as the single-speeds. The smaller two-speed costs $349.95; the larger costs $359.95. Call 562-802-9589, or visit www.daiwa.com.
