The latest trend in recreational boating - pod propulsion - offers anglers tangible benefits such as better fuel economy, but it also boosts the fun factor with its ultra-precise joystick maneuverability. Of course to own a pod-driven boat, you generally have to buy a new pod-equipped vessel or spend a bundle redesigning and retooling your hull. However, ZF - the German transmission manufacturer - now offers a more reasonable solution. ZF's JMS (Joystick Maneuvering System) uses standard prop-and-shaft propulsion combined with a bow thruster to provide the same maneuvering abilities afforded by pods. JMS does require additional ZF equipment such as a CAN-based electronic engine interface, SmartCommand controls and ZF transmissions.
