Blending elements of its sister company Northstar's direct-access functionality with Simrad-Yachting's menu access, Simrad has introduced the NSE Series multifunction displays. The slim NSEs were designed for ease of use among various boating applications; the user-interface employs a rotary dial with logical push-to-enter selection as well as direct-access keys and an alphanumeric keypad. NSEs feature 8- or 12.1-inch SunView screens that use low-power, white LED backlighting technology. The units are GPS chart plotters with embedded Nautic Insight HD cartography and may be networked with peripherals such as Simrad's BR24 broadband radar (which won the first-ever NMEA Technology Award at the National Marine Electronics Association convention in October), BSM-1 broadband sonar module and Sirius weather. The NSE12 offers 1,024- x 768-pixel resolution and costs $4,595, and the NSE8 offers 800- x 600-pixel resolution and costs $3,295. Call 800-628-4487, or visit www.simrad-yachting.com.
