NorCross Marine Products' new Infrared Thermometer SP allows anglers to literally pinpoint water temps, something essential to accurately fish Gulf Stream eddies and current-convergence lines. The handheld SP delivers information almost instantly - readings appear in a half-second and continue to update four times per second until you release the trigger button.
The unit - with an easily readable green LCD screen showing readings in Fahrenheit or Celsius - weighs in at a mere 8 ounces and can measure to 400 degrees F (useful for pinpoint cooking at après-angling barbecues). It also comes in handy for instantly checking for trailer-bearing overheating, etc.: Anything you aim the SP at will deliver a reading.
The SP is waterproof-rated at IP-4 (it will handle direct splashing and does float), so some care is necessary when using it on board; it comes with a two-year warranty. The suggested retail price of the SP powered by an A23, 12-volt battery lists at $90. NorCross Marine, 800-NOR-CROSS, www.norcrossmarine.com.
