The Garmin GPSMAP 700 series packs touch-screen technology and radar capability into smaller, more affordable plotter and plotter/sonar units. The GPSMAP 740 comes preloaded with detailed offshore maps for U.S. coastal areas, including Alaska and Hawaii and Explorer Charts data for the Bahamas. The GPSMAP 740s features a built-in 1 kW sonar transceiver capable of marking fish targets and terrain at 2,000-foot depths. The standard radar port allows anglers to connect with any Garmin GMR series radar; however, the units are not Garmin-network compatible. The 700 series does offer NMEA 2000 connectivity. The 7-inch waterproof display features Garmin's touch-screen technology and houses a built-in GPS receiver. Load an optional BlueChart g2 Vision SD card to navigate with a moving-map representation of the boat's position and to use Auto Guidance features for route selection or MarinerEye above-water and FishEye underwater views. Available in April, the GPSMAP 740 costs $1,499.99, and the 740s costs $1,699.99. Call 800-800-1020, or visit www.garmin.com.
