With the new M-324, FLIR Systems has taken its multifaceted M-Series thermal night-vision system, simplified it and created a lower-price-point camera. The main difference: The fully marinized, pan-and-tilt M-324 comes with a single camera (thermal core), while its older M-Series brothers carry both thermal-core and lowlight cameras. The thermal system distinguishes heat, while the lowlight camera magnifies any available ambient light. The M-324 offers 240- x 320-pixel resolution and a 50 percent improvement in range performance over earlier single-camera models, FLIR says. That allows users to see objects like channel markers, land outcroppings, boats and people in the water more clearly and from farther away, even in total darkness. All M-Series units come with FLIR's Accu-Point position-control-and-display feature and an array of infrared color pallets for viewing. The M-324 costs $9,995.
