A new player in the screen marketplace - Ambient Nav - has rolled out its Alpha line of screens. Featuring a very narrow outer bezel, the 17-inch screen takes up approximately as much space as wider-bezel 15-inchers. The Alpha models, introduced in October, feature nine - count 'em - input jacks, military-spec switches and a chassis that acts as a heat sink designed for high-temperature environments. Ambient Nav designed the Alpha line to avoid any ground loop through the monitor, preventing interference from other electronics. The unit includes an HDTV video card; the Picture-In-Picture (PIP) handles video and digital signals (the only screen to do so at present). The infrared remote operates intuitively, like your TV remote, and you can easily upgrade the unit since it is microprocessor controlled, allowing virtually unlimited customization. Any device requiring a video screen will interface with the Alpha. Look for Ambient Nav to add 21-inch models later in 2008. Ambient Nav, 425-248-2096; www.ambientnav.com.
