Tiburon Engineering Smart Shift Reel

Smart Shift reels sense when a fish turns to charge the boat or bursts toward the surface. These reels automatically shift into high gear to haul in 42 inches of line per handle turn.

Big-game reels are no longer just gorgeous hunks of metal. Consider Tiburon Engineering's three new Smart Shift two-speed, lever-drag models: SST7524, SST7530 and SST7540. Smart Shift reels sense when a fish turns to charge the boat or bursts toward the surface. These reels automatically shift into high gear to haul in 42 inches of line per handle turn. The three new aluminum-framed models join six older and heavier brothers and offer 5.9:1 and 2.8:1 ratios with up to 20 pounds of drag. The 7524 holds 300 yards of 20-pound mono or 250 of 50-pound braid with a 50-yard top shot of 40-pound mono. The 7530 carries 375 yards of 20-pound or 300 yards of 50-pound braid with a 50-yard top shot of 40-pound mono. And the 7540 loads up with 400 yards of 20-pound mono or 400 yards of 50-pound braid and a 50-yard, 40-pound mono top shot. Prices range from $579 to $599.
