Shimano Calcutta (CT) B Reels

Shimano combined simple construction with proven features to create its 10 new Calcutta (CT) B reels.

Shimano combined the time-honored, simple construction of Calcutta reels with proven features from other popular series to create its 10 new Calcutta (CT) B reels. Shimano begins with its cold-forging process, which produces a stronger frame with tighter tolerances for smoothness and durability. It adds the Variable Brake System, using centrifugal brake weights instead of a magnetic system to aid in casting control and distance, while providing adjustability. On five of the Calcutta B reels, anglers can take advantage of the Easy Access Sideplate to adjust brake weights without removing the spool.

All Calcutta B's feature Shimano's A-RB, antirust stainless ball bearings; nine of the 10 models house three A-RB ball bearings and a Super Stopper, one-way A-RB roller bearing to eliminate back play for solid hook-sets. (The 200GTB features seven A-RB ball bearings.) All the reels include Dartanium drag material, and the 200 and 400 models feature increased gear ratios. The lightest (6- to 8-pound class) and the largest (20- to 30-pound class) reels include a variety of size-specific enhancements, including weight-reducing measures and lower start-up inertia on light models, increased tension on free-spool and new power grips for bigger reels. Retail prices range from $189.99 to $279.99.
