On the Prowl

As anglers begin craving newer, stealthier approaches to fishing, Ocean Kayak delivers its Prowler 13 and Prowler 13 Angler editions.
125-Prowler13

As anglers begin craving newer, stealthier approaches to fishing, Ocean Kayak delivers its Prowler 13 and Prowler 13 Angler editions. Both measure a compact 13 feet (smaller than the previous Prowler 15 models), and while the Prowler 13 includes amenities such as a molded-in tackle-box storage space with bungee and a seat back, the 13 Angler offers flush-mount rod holders, a large tank livewell and its own small tackle box. Coupled with a stable platform (at 28 inches wide) and superb tracking, Ocean says this edition really lives up to its name. "One of the first things I noticed was the legroom amd amount of open space (especially behind the angler) for storing gear; it seems bigger than its 13 feet," says SF editor-in-chief Doug Olander, an avowed kayak angler. "I also really appreciate the factory rudder option, which helps control movement while drifting and when sight-casting or working specific structure." The 54-pound 'yaks can carry weights up to 450 pounds. Order the 13 in yellow, red, blue, lime, aqua, tangerine, sky, sunrise and titanium or the 13 Angler in olive or yellow. Retail cost is $769 to $832. Call 800-8-KAYAKS or visit www.oceankayak.com.
