Ocean Kayak Torque

Ocean Kayak and Minn Kota are both owned by Johnson Outdoors, so it was an easy fit for the two to combine efforts in creating Ocean's new Torque kayak. Torque's design centers on a removable, 36poundthrust trolling motor that drops into the hull aft of the angler and just ahead of the extra-large rudder. It plugs into a sealed connection. A 12 volt marine battery placed inside a built-in box in front of the angler powers the motor. The 13foot Torque weighs 71 pounds empty and 86 pounds with the motor and battery. Under power, it runs up to 5 1/2 mph but also features variable speed control for slower trolling applications and reverse. Torque also comes with transducer-compatible scuppers, an integrated dashboard, a kill switch and a large bow hatch. Cost is $2,000. Call 800-8-KAYAKS, or visit www.oceankayak.com
