Kodiak Custom Fishing Tackle Bottom Fishing Jig

The trailing hook swings from a short wire leader crimped to the eye of the lead hook.

Alaskan Tony Davis tells a thrilling fish story. He took out his prototype Kodiak Custom Fishing Tackle Bottom Fishing Jig for its first test run and hung a 420-pound halibut. He says he has video to prove it! Davis says the jig works on black bass, rockfish, yelloweye, lingcod and most any other Pacific bottom dweller. The jig consists of a 4-, 7- or 12-ounce cylindrical, angle-cut lead weight above a double-hook rig that's covered with a plastic skirt. The trailing hook swings from a short wire leader crimped to the eye of the lead hook. Davis suggests sweetening the jig with one long piece of bait pinned to both hooks. The jigs come in a variety of colors and cost $12 to $16.50. Alaskan tackle shops carry Davis' bottomfishing jigs and other lures he has created, but if you live in the lower 48, e-mail kodiakcustom@starband.net, visit www.kodiakcustom.com, or call 907-486-1974.
