With the introduction of Pacifica Plus, Interlux says it has an alternative for boaters who want a copper-free antifouling paint. Copper, which is quite effective for keeping marine organisms off boat hulls, naturally occurs in the marine environment but may be toxic in high concentrations. Pacifica Plus contains Econea, a new agent that targets shell fouling, Interlux says. As an ablative paint, Pacifica Plus wears away over time, which reduces paint buildup and minimizes surface prep before recoating; the paint dries fast enough to apply and launch in one day. The product meets the most stringent environmental standards for volatile organic compounds and may be used on metal, fiberglass and wood. Pacifica Plus comes in black, blue and red and costs $270 a gallon. Call 908-686-1300, or visit www.yachtpaint.com.
