The Abu Garcia Abassadeur C3

Abu Garcia listened to its customers and redesigned the Ambassadeur C3 series of reels to cast farther, retrieve more smoothly and endure more abuse. One particular improvement is the Carbon Matrix Drag, which the company says is smoother and 35 percent stronger than before. The reels also feature an improved nickel-coated levelwind system, a corrosion-resistant, six-pin, centrifugal brake-spool control system and stronger brass gears. The redesign includes larger star-drag wheel, handle and knobs. The six models in the C3 line offer a 5.3:1 gear ratio and carry 10- to 14-pound test. Cost is $74.95 to $84.95.
