Dredges have enjoyed a tremendous surge in popularity over the last several years - and with good reason: Having a couple of bait balls following your boat around all day is sure to bring any curious predators right into your spread. Crews struggle between pulling natural baits, rubber fish or strips, but no matter which direction they go, there always seems to be a dredge out these days. Offshore Innovations, makers of the popular Poon Harpoon in the Northeast, recently expanded its line to include dredges, spreader bars and lures.
The company's folding Titanium Dredge kit comes in a blue mesh bag that offers separate compartments for the baits and dredge rig, making for much easier storage and retrieval. The six-armed dredges come in sizes ranging from 18 to 36 inches and can be rigged with a variety of baits; however, the most popular choice is the company's Hologra-fish. These jointed, soft-plastic baits have a strip of reflective material running down the center and literally glow under normal light conditions. This material picks up and reflects light and color unlike any we have ever seen.
