Skeeter SX 2250 Review

A stable bay boat capable of doubling as a nearshore platform

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

This Skeeter is a clean-looking, sharply appointed bay boat with ample fore and aft decks. All cleats and potential hang-ups remain flush until use. Redesigned cap features deeper freeboard for better security on those occasional, fair-weather offshore runs. Amazing amount of storage: Two foredeck hatches; port and starboard fish boxes; space beneath twin aft-deck jump seats and in hatches aft of that.

TARGET MARKET

Serious inshore anglers who also like to venture to reefs and nearby wrecks when the seas are calm will appreciate this vessel. In addition, the 8-foot-5-inch beam amidships creates stability at rest for youngsters and anglers less sure of foot.

FISHIEST FEATURES

The SX 2250 features two independently-plumbed livewells — a 35-gallon, double-ram, gasketed, oval-shaped hold in the aft deck and a 17-gallon, gasketed oval beneath the forward-console seat. Four vertical rod holders lie on either side of the console, and the forward, port, insulated fish box offers an option to store four rods to 9 feet. An 80-quart Engel cooler beneath the leaning post is standard. The boat I ran also came with optional Minn Kota trolling motor, Power-Pole shallow-water anchor, tabs and a jack plate. It also featured two gunwale rod holders aft and five holders in the leaning post.

THE LAYOUT

Both decks offer plenty of room to elevate multiple anglers. The foredeck features a slight step up that facilitates climbing from the 22-inch cockpit depth. The center console — even with the molded in rod holders — is narrow enough to allow easy passage fore and aft.

FINAL IMPRESSIONS

The Skeeter featured minimal bow rise on acceleration and exhibited excellent stability and power in turns. In a light chop whipped up to peaks by rapid turns, the ride remained smooth and dry. A 50-mph top-end proved plenty speedy.
