I think that is a scamp or yellow mouth grouper. Pretty sure not a gag due to the spots, yellow mouth, and sharper fins.
GREAT ARTICLES AND INFORMATION. I JUST ORDERED SEVERAL JIGS TO ADD TO MY COLLECTION . AWAITING MY NEXT TRIP ON DEC 10TH AND 11 TO GET EM WET...THANKS AND PEACE.....RUSSELL HARRISON
That's a gag grouper.
This type of nose-assist hook jig is not as versatile as the tail, single hook Crippled Herring (CH), or Kandlefish (KF)type-metal jigs. They are not only deadly for vertical jigging but also for casting & trolling. Versatility is the key for these two all-purpose jigs. Never have I hooked a chinook salmon, in over several thousand caught, with these nose-assist hooked jigs, whether jigging , casting or trolling. In comparison, I can fish the CH, or KF,-type metal jigs very effectively between Florida and Alaska. My fellow jigging guides agree with me on the versatility.
Beautiful fish but what species is it?

Great list of jigs, however you left out the all time favorite Diamond jig lots of sizes and finishes have probably caught more fish over time than all others combined
