Costa Rica's New Run 'n Gun Billfishing
As I stepped aboard the sleek 32-foot sport fisher, the crew greeted me with a demeanor that seemed somehow apprehensive. It didn't occur to me until later to wonder why only a handful of charter boats were joining us as we headed to sea out of this popular Costa Rica port. As we trolled rigged mullet and Softheads over a calm sea, I anticipated fast action from sailfish, yellowfin tuna and other pelagics during this, my first of four days on the water.
