I wouldn't have sold the blue runner any life insurance. The 8-inch baitfish skittered on the surface, running down the break line where the murky water of an outgoing tide from Clearwater Pass on Florida's west coast met the clear, green water of the Gulf of Mexico. Its tail did that crazy thing that runners do when they're very, very nervous: It churned like a little egg-beater across the flat sea.
