Teleflex Marine Optimus 360

Optimus’ Electronic Power Steering system replaces the boat’s hydraulic system and connects to a belowdecks module that operates hydraulic pumps.

Joystick maneuvering has come to mechanically controlled twin-outboard-powered vessels thanks to Teleflex Marine’s new Optimus 360. As an operator moves the stick, actuators and SmartCylinders steer each outboard, engaging gears and throttle to drive the boat diagonally, rotate it or nudge it sideways. Optimus’ Electronic Power Steering system replaces the boat’s hydraulic system and connects to a belowdecks module that operates hydraulic pumps. The module also connects to Optimus’ throttle, shift and joystick controls. The EPS power-steering system costs $6,250; EPS plus the 360 joystick system ($17,995) goes on sale in July.
