Until fairly recently, Glenn Hughes served as a VP/marine-group publisher at Bonnier Corporation. But many of his 20 years or so here were at the helm of Sport Fishing magazine, to which he provided wisdom and leadership during times good and bad.

The American Sportfishing Association, a champion of not just the industry but the sport-fishing community in general, has just announced that Hughes has been appointed as the ASA’s new industry-relations vice president. That’s good news for an organization critically important to this sport and good news for an old friend.

I am sure the fit will be a good one. Glenn is a familiar and well-respected figure across both fishing-tackle and boating industries. His ability to quickly grasp issues that could seem arcane always impressed me. Glenn’s also very familiar with and understands the important complex marine-conservation and fisheries-management issues. Put another way: He gets it. And of course, he is definitely an enthusiast when it comes to sport fishing.

For more specifics, the ASA’s release is available. Here, I simply want to acknowledge an important appointment for the recreational-fishing industry and community, and wish Glenn Hughes the best in his new role.
