Here’s your shock video of the day. Actually, the incident is not quite as riveting as the above frame appears -- it occurs pretty quickly and is over in a flash. But it should serve as a reminder to anglers fishing off the coast in small boats such as kayaks that the sea can be an unpredictable and dangerous place.

This incident occurred a few hundred yards off the Maui shoreline, The Daily Mail reports, when an Arizona couple and several friends were whale watching and met face-to-face with an enthusiastic humpback that breached the surface in front of their boat, nudging it just enough to make things interesting.

Laurent Lebihan uploaded the video to YouTube last Sunday with the caption: “Good thing it was an adolescent whale and nothing bad happened.” The video had since been viewed about a half million times as of this blog.

Apparently, the whale and all aboard were fine. Enjoy – and be safe out there.
