We had a simply amazing first day fishing and filming Sport Fishing TV in Sitka, Alaska. Running out of the Kingfisher Lodge, the gang and I are already off and running to a stellar show.
Working the waters of Sitka Sound, we hooked our first salmon - a coho, or silver - just 5 minutes after putting lines in, and we went on to catch two monstrous kings in the 40-pound class (Dean and I each scored a big one).
But the action was just getting started. In the afternoon, we pushed out a couple miles into the Pacific and dropped down baits in about 300 feet, where we were hoping for some of Alaska's various bottom dwellers.
It was a winning game plan. Two hours later, we'd caught three big lingcod pushing 30 pounds, a beautiful yelloweye rockfish, and I capped off the day with a 100-plus-pound halibut, which we released.
I'm simply blown away by the beauty of this place and the quality of the fish. I'm sure I gasped like a kid many times on camera as those monsters popped their heads above the surface - couldn't help it! It was THAT shocking seeing these amazing fish for the first time ever! Of course, the fishing isn't always this good here in Sitka - we had an exceptional day. But who knows what tomorrow will hold. It could even be better!
From the wilds of Sitka, Alaska, good fishing to you,
