Word on the social-media street has it that Gray Ingram, The Billfish Foundation‘s 2012 Tag & Release winner, has just wrapped up an amazing week fishing for blue marlin out of Cape Verde, Africa.

Ingram and crew — including Capt. Ronnie Fields and mates Ben Horning and Thomas Garmany — released 51 of 65 blue marlin bites over a span of five days last week aboard Big Oh, Ingram’s 63-foot Ricky Scarborough.

They actually raised 88 blues during that span, according to Camila Hidalgo, Ingram’s girlfriend, who messaged us via Facebook, noting proudly that Ingram “reeled in 41 of the 51 fish.”

But wait, the story gets even better: The boat’s top day saw the crew go 14 for 16 on blue marlin – and they released a white marlin and spearfish to boot for a grand slam, according to Hidalgo and a story at billfishreport.com.

“They finished off the week with 80 blue marlin releases in eight days of fishing,” Hidalgo tells Sport Fishing.

The crew is incommunicado right now, but we’re reaching out to them and will bring you the full story as we receive it.
