Dream Boat

Is a Fancy Piece of Fiberglass in Your Future?

How I do love fall: cooler temperatures, beach bull reds and the beginning of boat-show season in the South. Of course, my days spent hunting the halls of regional convention centers focus mostly on my work, for I already own my dream boat.

She's sea-foam green with low gunwales, a compact console, multiple livewells and ample deck space. She's three years old now, but she still retains her new-boat look thanks to the meticulous care we - my husband and I - give her. She's a Pathfinder 2200 XL TE with a Yamaha F150 outboard.

For our area of coastal Georgia, she's perfect. We often run across choppy bays but we need access to fairly skinny water. With her jack plate, i-Pilot Minn Kota trolling motor and Power-Pole, she's efficient and capable for every fishing scenario we encounter. The only thing that might make her more perfect would be a custom, removable tower for scouting tripletail on the surface in spring.

For folks like me, boat shows are great for finding helpful marine accessories, new electronics and even for stepping outside my own reality. I mean, if I could afford it, why shouldn't I have a 60-plus foot offshore sport fisherman and my beloved bay boat? Or maybe an ultralight technical poling skiff?

So what's your dream boat? Do you own it now or will you be browsing an upcoming event like the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Oct. 28 to Nov. 1? Or, maybe it's time for a new dream boat?

We'd love to hear what would make your perfect setup. Go to our forums and tell us what boat would make your fishing dreams come true. Maybe this fall or winter, you'll find her, and by spring you'll have your own little home on the ocean.
