Boat Show Fever

I’m really looking forward to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) next week (Oct. 27-31) because it offers a glimpse of spring just as we head into winter. New boats, new outboards, new electronics and new tackle — what could be more fun? Fort Lauderdale also offers warm sunshine — at a time that many of us are feeling our first freezes — and a true party atmosphere. But mostly, it’s about the boats.

Manufacturers often tip their hats about new product to magazine editors, but sometimes they prefer to surprise us. So far, we’ve heard about a few tantalizing offerings. Here is a very short list:

  • Boston Whaler 285 Conquest and 210 Montauk
  • Hell’s Bay Biscayne
  • Honda BF250 outboard
  • Furuno’s NavPilot 700 series
  • Fusion 700 series marine entertainment system

This year’s FLIBS is the 52nd annual event. The show now covers six locations including the traditional Bahia Mar site and the Broward County Convention Center. The show’s website provides all the details on ticket sales, parking and transportation to the various locations. Also, look for the free MyBoatShow app for iPhone and Android platforms – to help you get around FLIBS without a bulky program.
