Defying the convention that more power must come with more weight, Suzuki has introduced its new 2002 DF EFI, a technologically advanced engine that weighs less than any comparable fuel injected four-stroke or direct injected two-stroke outboard presently in production.
This new fuel-injected four-stroke is based on Suzuki's proven in-line four cylinder powerhead with offset driveshaft for compact size and a rigged-and-ready weight of only 410 pounds (20" shaft model. 25" shaft model weighs 420 pounds.). This makes Suzuki's newest four-srtoke innovation ideal for a wide variety of fresh and saltwater boats.
"This new motor is aimed right at the heart of the worldwide boating market," said Larry Vandiver, marketing director for the marine division of American Suzuki Motor Corporation. "It's performance characteristics, fuel efficiency and best power to weight ratio make our 140 four-stroke a perfect match for all types of boats- from bay boats to pontoon boats, flats boats to walleye boats, even deep-vee bluewater fishing boats and power catamarans," added Vandiver.
At first glance, boaters will see that Suzuki's fuel injected 140 four-stroke is unlike any other outboard. An exclusive new engine cover design with a large air induction port provides maximum airflow for increased power. The design of this louvered port and air chamber permits smooth, quiet intake of air while helping prevent debris from entering the engine compartment.
Under the hood, the innovations continue. The compact inline four-cylinder powerhead features a total displacement of 2044 cc. Offset crankshaft layout allows for a compact profile. Multi-point sequential fuel injection contributes to easy starting, crisp performance and significantly improved fuel economy. Other features include an exclusive oil cooler, 40-amp alternator and multi-function tachometer with engine performance monitor.
Suzuki's 140 horsepower four-stroke outboards will be formally introduced to the press and public later this summer.
