Penn's New LD series Reels
Penn's new LD series reels offer smooth, dependable lever drag performance for battleing tough gamefish.
Nov 17, 2000
When you take on hard-fighting gamefish like cobia, kings, tarpon and tuna, you need a rugged, lightwieght reel with a smooth, precise drag system, plus the power to bring these saltwater bruisers to the boat. That's exactly what Penn had in mind when designing its new-for-2001 LD Series models. Offering the proven performance of Penn's world-renowned International style lever drag system, the 225LD (425 yds./20-pound test) and 245LD (475 yds./30-pound test) are superior fishing machines inside and out. They feature rugged one piece graphite frames and machined anodized aluminum spools that are extremely lightwieght, yet strong enough to endure anything the harsh marine environment can dish out. At the heart of the American-made LD Series reels is Penn's exclusive HT 100 lever drag system, specially designed to deliver smooth, consistent and dependable fish-stopping performance. The 225LD and 245LD models let you pre-set the drag tension to your exact requirements by adjusting the control knob on the sideplate of each reel. While fishing, the 120-degree arc lever allows you to conveniently and accurately control drag pressure through three set stops- free spool, strike and full. Within each of these reels, four sealed stainless stell abll bearings ensure smoothness and reliability under the most demanding of saltwater conditions. Solid machined stainless steel gears in both the 225LD and 245LD provide gear ratios of 4.3-1 and 3.9-1 respectively, for the perfect combination of speed and cranking power. Rock-solid performance is suppplied by a sturdy double dog anti-reverse system on the 225LD and a heavy duty single dog anti-reverse system on the 245LD model. Both of the LD Series reels come with graphite rods clamps for easy and secure attachment. These reels can be system matched to high quality rods within Penn's TunaStick, Sabre, Power Stick, Slammer and Mariner rod families for optimum overall performance.
