On the verge of another new year, the editors of Sport Fishing celebrate the latest tackle innovations introduced at the 2007 International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades - ICAST. Most of the gear we checked out at this past summer's event in Las Vegas will be on store shelves by January 1.
We noted both old and new trends:
? Tackle manufacturers continue to support the vertical-jigging craze with dedicated new rods, reels and lures.
? At least one company - Shakespeare - has become more serious about building tackle for women.
? Reels keep getting smaller and tougher for handling braided line and big fish. More rod companies incorporate these techniques into their designs.
? Kayak fishing keeps growing as a subsport of saltwater angling.
? The number of sunglass manufacturers competing for the fishing market continues to expand, thus offering better total protection for our eyes.
